In 3D import, contour quality determines everything downstream - especially for parts with variable bevels and bevel transitions. OmniWin 2026 introduces a new import method for exactly this: "Projection Based 3D Import".
Previously, contours were determined only using the "Edge detection" method - read directly from the top face of the 3D model. The new "Projection" method instead calculates contours by projecting the model geometry onto the cutting plane, delivering more accurate, complete results for complex parts, particularly where edge detection falls short.
Both methods are available in the OmniWin Options, on the "3D Import" page: "Edge detection" remains the default method for standard parts, while "Projection" is recommended when the default method produces incorrect or unclosed contours.
